Six XJTU titles among China's top science journal initiative

The results of the 2025 High-Starting New Journal Project under the China Science and Technology Journals Excellence Action Plan (Phase II) were announced on Dec 5, with six journals from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) selected, ranking the university second nationally.

Advanced Elastomers (English)‌, with Zhang Liqun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and president of XJTU, as the editor-in-chief, and Professor Chen Fei from the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology as the executive editor, is co-hosted by the School of Chemical Engineering and the Journal Center.

It focuses on frontier materials research, including high-performance rubber, green elastomers, and smart polymers, to accelerate the innovation and application of elastomers in aerospace, energy equipment, and biomedicine. It is scheduled to launch in 2026.

Intelligent Equipment (English)‌, with CAE Academician Lu Bingheng as the editor-in-chief and Professor Lei Yaguo from the School of Mechanical Engineering as the executive editor, is co-hosted by the School of Mechanical Engineering and the Journal Center.

It focuses on intelligent design, robotic systems, industrial artificial intelligence, and digital twins, aiming to build an international academic hub for the "design-manufacturing-operation" chain of intelligent equipment. It is scheduled to launch in 2026.

International Journal of Advanced Nuclear Reactor Design and Technology‌ (English), with CAE Academician Su Guanghui as the editor-in-chief and Professor Tian Wenxi from the School of Energy and Power Engineering as the executive editor, focuses on advanced nuclear energy systems, small modular reactors, and fusion technology, publishing cutting-edge research in reactor design, thermal-hydraulics, and nuclear safety. The journal, founded in 2019, has been indexed by EI, Scopus, and EBSCO.

Quantum Devices and Systems (English)‌, with Academicians Jiang Zhuangde and Fang Yu as the co-editors-in-chief, and Professor Zhao Libo from the School of Instrument Science and Technology as the executive editor, is co-hosted by the School of Instrument Science and Technology and the Journal Center.

It focuses on quantum sensing, measurement, and micro- and nanoscale devices, aiming to advance the transition of quantum technology from fundamental research to system integration and engineering applications. It is scheduled to launch in 2026.

Translational Dental Research (English)‌, with CAE Academician Zhao Yimin as the honorary editor-in-chief, Professor Li Ang from XJTU's Hospital of Stomatology as the editor-in-chief, and Professor Xu Feng from the School of Life Science and Technology as the executive editor, is co-hosted by XJTU's Hospital of Stomatology and the Journal Center.

It focuses on translational research directions, including oral biomaterials, digital diagnosis and treatment, and smart devices, to build a cross-disciplinary platform for oral medicine and biomedical engineering. The journal, published in January, has been indexed by Index Copernicus International.

Frontiers of STS (Science, Technology and Society‌), with Zhang Liqun as the editor-in-chief and Professor Liang Jun from the School of Marxism as the executive editor, is co-hosted by the School of Marxism and the Journal Center.

It focuses on the ethical challenges and social governance issues brought by cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and life sciences, aiming to build a high-end academic platform for interdisciplinary research on science, technology, and society. It is scheduled to launch in 2026.

The China Science and Technology Journals Excellence Action Plan aims to promote the high-quality development of China's scientific and technological journals and serve the construction of a strong nation in science and technology. Over the past five years, XJTU has had 16 journals selected under this plan, ranking among the top universities nationally in the number of selections.
