XJTU holds 2026 New Year Concert

Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU)'s student ethnic orchestra, student symphony orchestra, student chorus, and the chorus of the art troupe of the university for seniors presented an artistic feast to celebrate the 130th anniversary of XJTU and the 70th anniversary of the Westward Academic Relocation at the XJTU 2026 New Year Concert, which was held at Xianzi Hall in Xingqing Campus on Dec 27.

The concert opened with Longteng Huyue (Dragon Soaring, Tiger Leaping) by the student ethnic orchestra, a powerful, majestic piece that immediately energized the audience.

The Western Folk Music Suite evoked the vastness of Northwest China with its rustic melodies. Impression of National Music – Grand Suite and Spring Blossoms, Autumn Fruits depicted the profound history of China, symbolizing the university's 130 years of dedication and achievements, as well as the 70 years of the Westward Academic Relocation.

The first half of the concert culminated in the spirited Horse Racing, followed by the encore piece Iron Blood and Loyal Heart, which blended national pride with tender emotion.

In the halftime, the chorus of the art troupe of the university for seniors performed The Motherland Will Not Forget. They also sang the Ode to XJTU, composed by Professor Wang Zhongmin, to express affection for their alma mater.

The student chorus performed New Year in a cappella style, using vocal percussion to convey vitality and best wishes for 2026. The Brightest Star in the Night Sky symbolized hope and warmth, while I Love You, China combined a cappella with patriotism, showcasing the students' youthful spirit.

Ode to the Red Flag opened the second half of the concert with a majestic introduction, expressing love for China, as Prelude to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg wove together love and labor. Yellow River Cantata reached another emotional peak, with the lyrical Ballad of the Yellow River and the passionate Defend the Yellow River evoking patriotic fervor. Grand Waltz presented elegant melodies and rhythmic grace, before the finale, Symphony No. 5 in C Minor: Third and Fourth Movements, symbolized humanity's struggle against fate.

The concert concluded with the entire audience standing to sing the school anthem, For the Glory of the World, accompanied by the orchestra. Stirring voices echoed, connecting past and future, uniting every Jiaotong person's aspiration and mission.
