The XJTU team secures its spot in the 2026 MATE ROV Competition World Championship.

Students from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) once again claimed the overall championship at the China Regional Competition for the 2026 MATE International Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) Competition (EXPLORER Class), securing their spot in the World Championship.

The competition was a comprehensive test of engineering, innovation, and entrepreneurship, featuring rigorous segments such as safety protocol inspections, mission challenges, technical documentation reviews, corporate culture and social responsibility presentations, and engineering defense sessions.

During the competition, participants were required to finish underwater robot operations, product demonstrations, on-site defenses, and text evaluations, operating their robots to complete three thematic underwater tasks: "Seabed 2030: A Kaleidoscope of Cold-Water Corals", "Smart Atlantic Alliance: Better Information, Better Decisions", and "Wind-Driven Offshore Oil Platforms: Scalable Solutions for Global Energy Demand".

The XJTU team stood out with their clear strategic thinking, articulate presentations, and high task completion rates, with their robot impressing in both design and performance, leaving a lasting impression on the judges and visiting faculty and students from peer institutions.

The MATE International ROV Competition is a premier international event in underwater robotics. Spanning 42 countries and involving over 600 universities, it remains one of the largest, most influential, and highly authoritative competitions in the global underwater robotics sector.
