XJTU achieves historic success in 2026 MCM/ICM

XJTU students win 108 top-tier awards at the 2026 MCM/ICM.
The results of the 2026 Mathematical Contest in Modeling and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) were released on May 8. Students from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) achieved a historic milestone by securing 108 top-tier awards, an increase of 27 over their previous record.
The honors included one Outstanding Winner (Grand Prize), 18 Finalists, and 89 Meritorious Winners. XJTU has received the Outstanding Winner award for nine consecutive years, a prestigious feat given that the success rate for this top prize is less than 0.13 percent.
As one of the world's most influential math modeling competitions, the contest spans cutting-edge interdisciplinary fields such as the environment, energy, finance, medicine, and national security.
Participating teams must complete an intense four-night, five-day challenge that includes problem analysis, model construction, algorithm development, and the writing of an English research paper. This year's competition attracted a record-breaking number of participants, with over 32,000 teams and 94,000 students from 28 countries and regions competing on the global stage.
This year, XJTU also recorded its highest-ever participation, with 1,141 teams and 3,411 students registering for the competition. To support them, the university organized a series of high-quality lectures on "Mathematical Modeling Methods and Applications". This six-month systematic training program helped students solidify their theoretical foundations while mastering advanced modeling tools for solving real-world problems.
