University delegation from Malaysia visits XJTU
Representatives from UTAR and XJTU discuss further cooperation at iHarbour.
Professor Ewe Hong Tat, president of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) in Malaysia, visited Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) on May 21. The two sides held discussions on advancing student-faculty exchanges and industry-university-research collaboration.
Shan Wenhua, assistant president of XJTU, introduced the university's most important initiatives. He highlighted XJTU's proactive measures in establishing the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR), integrating education, technology, and talent cultivation, creating the iHarbour, and promoting industry-education integration.
Shan stated that XJTU and UTAR share a strong cooperative foundation and expressed a desire to broaden collaboration to help build a closer community with a shared future for mankind.
Ewe Hong Tat expressed appreciation for XJTU's proactive efforts in industry-education integration practices and introduced UTAR's recent educational developments and plans. He noted that since signing a cooperation agreement in 2022, the two universities have achieved significant results in undertaking "Belt and Road" international scientific cooperation projects and conducting cultural exchanges.
He expressed confidence that bilateral cooperation would yield continuous breakthroughs and hoped both sides would utilize the networks of the UASR and the ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology to expand multilateral exchanges among member institutions on broader platforms.
Both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on organizing student summer camps, developing English-taught courses for international students, and promoting industry-university-research collaboration under the framework of the UASR.
UTAR, founded by the Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation, is a non-profit higher education institution. It is Malaysia's first comprehensive university established by the Chinese community with a complete range of disciplines, and one of the country's largest and most prestigious universities.
