Students deepen their understanding and appreciation of ethnic culture through the games.

The fourth Ethnic Group Traditional Sports Games of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) were held on April 16 at the southeast track and field stadium of the Xingqing Campus. Over 700 faculty and students across the university competed together, showcasing sportsmanship through sweat and fostering cultural resonance through joy.

Wang Huan, deputy secretary of the CPC XJTU Committee, delivered an opening speech for the games, while Chen Boan from Lizhi College and Xia Liang from the Sports Center took oaths on behalf of all participating athletes and referees, respectively.

The event featured a number of vibrant traditional ethnic sports performances. Martial arts demonstrations blended strength and grace, traditional archery highlighted the essence of Chinese heritage, dragon dances exuded majestic energy, and ethnic fitness dance routines radiated youthful vitality with dynamic rhythms.

This year's games included six ethnic group-themed competitive events: cuju (ancient football), pitch-pot, Xizang tug-of-war, stilt racing, board shoe racing, and embroidered ball throwing, alongside two interactive activities. These events combined strength and skill, highlighting the unique charm of ethnic sports.

Traditional archery and slingshot target-hitting were also available as interactive experiences, giving students a chance to truly experience the allure of ethnic sports.

A total of 112 teams competed, with winners announced across 17 awards in six events.
