On March 29, Xi'an Jiaotong University inaugurated three research institutions at the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Port in Xi'an, Shaanxi province: the Space Manufacturing Research Institute, the Large Aircraft Research Institute, and the National Security Interdisciplinary Center.

Zhang Liqun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Xi'an Jiaotong University, emphasized the university's alignment with national strategies in space power, manufacturing, and national security. These platforms aim to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and advance technological self-reliance.

Zhang hopes these institutes will explore new paths in innovation, address core technologies, and deepen industry-academia-research integration. The goal is to transform scientific strengths into educational advantages, support regional development, nurture top-tier talent, and help build a world-class aerospace industry cluster in the western region.

The Space Manufacturing Research Institute focuses on space manufacturing systems, additive manufacturing processes, and material performance in extreme environments. Collaborating with major aerospace institutions, it aims to contribute to the "dream of a strong aerospace nation."

The Large Aircraft Research Institute is dedicated to the design and testing of large aircraft, fostering collaboration between industry and academia, and developing applied disciplines like machinery and aerospace. It aims to cultivate outstanding engineers and innovative talents.

The National Security Interdisciplinary Center, planned for October 2025, will cover areas such as biosafety, network security, and energy security. Partnering with national security departments and industry leaders, it aims to train multidisciplinary experts and modernize the national security system.

The event featured academic reports from industry leaders and was attended by government officials and representatives from leading aerospace companies.
