XJTU model airplane team soars at national design competition

The 2025 China Universities Aircraft Design Competition (CUADC) finals recently concluded at Deqing Moganshan Airport in East China's Zhejiang province.
The Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) model airplane team won a championship and a third place in the multi-rotor drone mission flight category, as well as a runner-up prize in the solar-powered aircraft mission flight category. Overall, they achieved remarkable success, earning one special prize, four first prizes, seven second prizes, and one third prize, marking a record-breaking performance.
As the only aerospace science and technology innovation competition for university students in China that integrates aircraft design, production, flight, and control, this year's competition reached new heights in terms of specifications and influence.
After fierce competition in five major categories, the XJTU Model Airplane Association participated in six projects at a national event that brought together nearly 4,000 teachers and students from 150 universities.
The XJTU Model Airplane Association, established in 2002 and jointly guided by the Youth League Committee and the School of Aerospace, is composed of aviation enthusiasts from various schools, covering different majors and levels of study.
The team has accumulated extensive experience in micro- and small-scale UAV design, heavy-lift aircraft design, solar aircraft design, and automatic flight control, winning championships in both the SAE International Aero Design Competition in the United States and the National Aerospace Model Championship for Scientific Research.
