The delegation learns about XJTU's academic and scientific achievements during an on-site visit.

A delegation led by David Lewis, pro vice chancellor of the University of Adelaide, recently visited Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). The two sides held discussions and reached multiple agreements to deepen higher education collaboration, expand multidisciplinary joint programs, and promote scientific research cooperation and exchanges.

Zhang Liqun, president of XJTU and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, stated that the university adheres to an open-door philosophy in education and continues to explore Sino-foreign cooperative education, yielding positive results.

The two universities have long maintained a strong foundation for cooperation, particularly in fields such as chemical engineering and materials science, where both institutions have outstanding disciplinary strengths and broad prospects for collaboration.

Zhang expressed hope that this visit would serve as an opportunity to further build bridges for multidisciplinary cooperation and elevate bilateral collaboration to higher levels and broader domains.

David Lewis noted that the delegation's onsite visit enabled them to experience XJTU's achievements in research platforms, disciplinary development, and distinctive educational features, further strengthening their confidence in deepening practical cooperation.

He pointed out that the two universities share a high degree of alignment in development philosophies and visions, and expressed anticipation for practical cooperation in key areas such as talent cultivation and the co-construction of advantageous disciplines, aiming to build broader platforms for talent cultivation and academic exchanges.

During the visit, the delegation toured XJTU's exhibition hall showcasing scientific and technological achievements to gain a firsthand understanding of the university's cutting-edge research.

They visited the XJTU-POLIMI Joint School to gain insight into the university's progress in Sino-foreign cooperative education. The delegation also traveled to the School of Chemical Engineering and the School of Materials Science and Engineering for thematic symposia and visited key laboratories to understand how research platforms operate.
