Xifan WANG

WANG XifanAcademicianof Chinese Academy of Science, was born in May, 1936. He was graduated from Xi’anJiaotong University in 1957. In 1986, he was promoted as Professor. From September1981 to September 1983, he was a visiting scientist in Cornell University. FromOctober 1991 to October 1993, he served as Guest professor in Kyushu Instituteof Technology. In 2008, he was elected as IEEE Fellow. In 2009, he was electedas Academician of Chinese Academy of Science.

His major researchfields include power system analysis, generation planning and transmissionsystem planning, reliability evaluation, power market and new-type transmissionmethod and the renewable energy power generation. He undertakes 973 projects,more than 30 scientific researches. He has made great achievements in the studyof modern power system theories and has played important role in several majordomestic power engineering projects. Commissioned by the Three Gorges Office, theNational Science and Technology Commission, Professor  WANG completed thepower system technical and economic feasibility study for the Three GorgeProject. In the planning and reliability studies, a series of theoreticalresults have been achieved, and he has been recognized as the founder of Power SystemPlanning studies using the modern operational research theories in China. Thenewly-proposed transmission method has been putting into demonstration projectphase.

Professor WANG has authored andco-authored 12 books, including 4 English books and 8 Chinese books, amongwhich the “Power System Computation” won the National Excellent Award ofScience and Technology, the “Electricity Market Fundamentals”, “ElectricityEngineering Fundamentals”, “Modern Power System Planning” and“Modern Power System Analysis” were chosen as teaching material by manydomestic universities. The English book “Modern Power SystemPlanning” was appointed as teaching material for postgraduates of 12 foreignuniversities. He has thus far published more than 300 academic papers, whichwere quoted more than 4,300 times by journals or articles from both home andabroad. He has obtained 11 awards of provincial or ministerial level forscientific researches.
