The School of Continuing Education at Xi’an Jiaotong University (including the School of Vocational and Technical Education, and the School of Online Education) was changed into the present name in July 2006. The predecessor of the school is School of Vocation, Technical and Continuing Education. In 1995, the school was recognized by the State Education Commission the national vocational faculty training base. In 1999, the school was advanced into the key training base. In March 2001, the school offered online education as a pilot unit. Till 2013, the school was regarded as the top ten Chinese continuing education school for four consecutive years by numerous print and internet media in China. Currently, the school engages in continuing education, modern long-distance education, and non-degree training.
The school has three teachings centers in continuing education, long-distance education, and training. The three centers are supported with executive, logistic, teaching and research, experiment and practice, and technical offices etc. The school sets up more than 120 amateur, correspondence teaching stations and long-distance learning centers throughout the country. By the end of 2014, the school has 102 faculty and enrolls 15,000 students on amateur and correspondence programs, 60,000 students on online programs, and over 3300 trainees. The school has developed a lifetime education and learning network in western China accessible nationwide. The School offers nearly 60 vocational and undergraduate degree programs in computer science and technology, mechanical engineering and automation, international economics and trade, clinical medicine, nursing, law, international business administration, tourism management, architectural engineering, finance, and accounting etc. The school delivers both amateur, correspondence and continuing education. Since its founding, the school has graduated over 100,000 talents contributing to social and economic development and has earned wide acclaims in society.
