The history of School of the Electronic and Information Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University can trace back to the Electrical Engineering program of Jiaotong University established in 1908. In 1912, the electrical engineering program was renamed the electrical and mechanical engineering. In 1928, the electrical and mechanical engineering program was expanded into an electrical engineering college. In 1937, the college was incorporated into an electrical engineering department. In 1957, after Jiaotong University moved westward to Xi’an, the electrical engineering department was reorganized as the radio engineering department. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the program was split into electronic engineering department, information and control engineering department, and computer science and technology department. In 1994, the three departments were merged into the current School of Electronic and Information Engineering.
With the historical development of nearly a century, the School of Electronic and Information Engineering enjoys rapid disciplinary development. The school covers almost all fields and emerging frontiers of electronic and information engineering. The school plays a dual role in educating quality talents and engaging state of the art researches. The school attaches great importance to fostering students’ foundational knowledge, skills and innovative ability. The goal of the school is to educate professional talents with integrated competence and innovative capability as well as leadership potential in science and technology community and make contributions in advancing Xi’an Jiaotong University into a world class university by the middle of this century.
The School of Electronic and Information Engineering now has five departments, including the Department of Electronic Science and Technology, the Department of Microelectronics, the Department of Information and Telecommunication Engineering, the Department of Automation Science and Technology, and the Department of Computer Science and Technology, and 1 Computer Teaching and Experiment Center, which serves the education community of the whole campus.
