Nanyang College

Nanyang College was established inJuly 2008, taking the original name of JiaoTong University “Nanyang Public School”, meaning “Promote education, Inherit spirit”. The college is located at the side of Dongting, where a well-known Chinese poet of the Tang Dynasty, Bai Juyi, once lived; This nameperfectly combeshistory with modern civilization.

Nanyang College offers programs in 5 majors, including Electrical Engineering and Automation, Measuring and Control Technology and Instrumentation, Computer Science and Technology, NetworkingEngineering, Public Policy and Administration. The college currently has an enrollment of more than 2200 students. Professor Pan Zongguang, former president ofHong Kong Polytechnic University, serves as the dean of Nanyang College.

Nanyang College has three dormitories, including East 7, East 8 and East 9. The office of the college is located on the first floor of dormitory building East 9. Each dormitory building has an area for public activities,including alecture hall, a reading room,a consultingroom, a gym, a multi-functional room and a room for student societies, all of which are equipped with a distinctive college culture identification system and educational management facilities.

With cultivating excellent young talents as its essential principle, Nanyang College has created an efficient and feasible educational system known as “6S” during its six years of operation. The goal is to guide students by theSpiritof the university, and carry out four programs, namelyStudy,Science,ServiceandSports, making them eventually getSurpriseat the university. Centering on “6S” educational system, Nanyang College creates a warm home for all students and focuses on the personality development of each student; this gradually forms the distinctive college culture and system. Our target is to cultivate students into peoplewho have firm ideals and faith, a strong sense of social responsibility, broad international vision, show outstanding leadership and who poses a noble personality. Nanyang College is devotedto building a unique platform for self-education, self-management and self-service, which will enhance students’ moral and psychological qualities and comprehensive abilities, promoting their well-rounded development.

Students’ life

Nanyang College provides students with comfortable and convenient living conditions. Every dormitory building is equipped with study rooms where students may discuss issueswith each other. TheAcademic CounselingCenter, which is organized by the college, is also a good platform for sharing and communication, fostering an atmosphere of helping each other.

In addition, Nanyang College has its own gym that allows students to exercise at any time in order to keep in good health. Additionally, in order to make the students’ livescolorful and help them develop diversified interests, different kinds of activities are held each semester, such as a freshmen party on the Double-Ninth Day, the Nanyang Carnival, Chinese Cultural Week, Dormitory Cultural Month, and so on. To summarize, Nanyang College cares about every student, and has gradually built a unique platform for self-education, self-management and self-service, which comprehensively improves students' overall quality.

Student Organizations

There are seven major student organizations in Nanyang College,all of which play important roles in the colorful life of the college.

The Youth League Committee of Nanyang Collegeprovidesguidance for other student organizations such as the Student Union and the Dormitory Management Committee. Its 5 functional sections, office, organizational section, publicity section, volunteering section and science and technology section, carry out tasks assigned by the Youth League Committee of the university.

The Student Union of Nanyang College, aimsto serve and train students; it organizes all kind of activities in order to make students’ extra-curricular activities colorful. The Student Union consists of eight sections: life section, practice section, sports section, art section, psychological section, administration section, publicity section and study section. Each section co-operates with the others in the activities organized by the Student Union, while finishing its own work.

The Nanyang DormitoryCommitteewas set up in September 2011, with the target of achieving students’ self-management of public facilities and create a positive and colorful community culture by caring about every detail of their life on campus. The committee regularly organizes popular community activities in order to create a convenient, comfortable and warm environment for students.

The NanyangYouth Volunteers’ Associationwas established and officially registered in March 2002. It is one of the oldest public welfare associations atthe university.It was renamedthe Nanyang Youth Volunteers Association with residential college system reform in 2008. It is a large-scale and wide-ranging organization, including four departments, consisting of the general office,the publicitysection, the communication section, and the quality control section.  

The Nanyang News Agencyis one of the top ten news media organizations of the university, responsible for coverage of college reports, messaging, special news and publicity. The News Agency trains reporters,equipping them with professional qualities, skills for interviewing and reportingonoverall college development, teaching and students’ life and other aspects of Nanyang College.

The Rui De Reading Communitywas founded in 1996. It upholds the idea of serving the students and communicating with each other, creating the Rui deGREATspirit which representsGrace,Reader,Excellent,Aggressive andTechnology.

The Science and Technology Association,one of the oldestscience andtechnologyorganizations of XJTU, was founded in 1984. It consists of four sections, namely the organization section, the science section, the electronic technology section and the computersection. The association hasannually organized manyscienceand technology activities, such as scientific and technological festivals, obligations maintenance and so on, maintaining the principlesof unity, cooperation, creation and efficiency.
