Xi'an Jiaotong University seminar on new popular literature and art publishing

On May 22, Xi'an Jiaotong University hosted a seminar on the integrated development of new popular literature and art publishing, marking the 84th anniversary of Mao Zedong's "Talks at the Yan'an Forum on Literature and Art." The event, held at the All-China Journalists Association, focused on "Inheriting the Yan'an Literary Spirit and Promoting High-quality Development of New Popular Literature and Art."

Cheng Jin, representing Xi'an Jiaotong University, emphasized the university's commitment to cultural strategies and the development of new popular literature in the internet age. The university aims to leverage its interdisciplinary strengths to advance literary achievements and integrated publishing, contributing to cultural prosperity.

Wu Shulin, chairman of the China Publishers Association, highlighted the transformative effect of technology on the publishing industry, urging the sector to embrace integrated publishing to foster the growth of new popular literature and art. Zhang Shouying, president of the China Press and Culture Promotion Association, underscored publishing's role in cultural inheritance and innovation, advocating for the exploration of traditional Chinese and revolutionary culture.

Thirteen experts shared insights at the seminar, including Mao Dun Literature Prize winner Xiong Zhaozheng, who discussed the Yan'an literary spirit and contemporary creation. Experts emphasized the importance of rooting literary creation in real life and maintaining a balance between artistic quality and public appeal.

The seminar also featured the unveiling of the Fourth Research Office of the New Popular Literature and Art Research Center, focusing on integrated publishing. This office, in collaboration with Xi'an Jiaotong University Press, aims to establish a comprehensive mechanism for research, publishing, and communication, including digital publishing and media content development.

Additionally, the center launched its English academic journal, "New Popular Culture & Arts Review," providing a platform for international academia to engage with China's research in this field. Founded in December 2024, the research center is the first in China dedicated to new popular literature and art, positioning itself as a core research force.

Attendees recognized the seminar's role in enhancing the university's research capabilities and fostering industry collaboration. Future efforts will focus on integrating technology, culture, and publishing to produce works that resonate with contemporary audiences and meet growing cultural demands.
