Second Central Asia-China+ Green Energy Academicians Forum kicks off in Almaty
Representatives from Central Asia and China explore pathways for regional green energy development.
The 2nd Central Asia-China+ Green Energy Academicians Forum in Almaty, Kazakhstan, brought together academicians, government representatives, and major energy enterprises from China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan to explore regional pathways for green energy development.
At the opening ceremony, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Samarkand State University, Kyrgyz International University, and the National Academies of Sciences of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan signed the Almaty Charter on Green Energy Cooperation.
The charter establishes a regular forum mechanism, strengthens collaborative research and development, and institutionalizes regional green energy cooperation to provide long-term support for building a "Green Silk Road".
Renowned scholars such as Academicians Tao Wenquan, He Yaling, and Guan Xiaohong from XJTU, alongside industry leaders, held in-depth discussions on technological innovation and regional collaboration for carbon neutrality, sustainable development strategies, smart energy operation technologies, green transition mechanisms, and cutting-edge energy solutions.
Participants emphasized China and Central Asia's complementary advantages in wind, solar, and hydrogen energy, highlighting vast cooperation potential.
Bie Zhaohong, executive vice-president of XJTU, underscored the forum's threefold mission: deepening scientific dialogue, fostering industry-university integration, and solidifying multilateral cooperation.
She announced plans to establish a "Central Asia Center" at the university's iHarbor, partnering with firms like Northwest Electric Power Design Institute and China Energy Engineering Group Digital Technology to deploy technologies in Central Asia.
Joint labs with regional universities will also cultivate cross-cultural talent, positioning the initiative as a hub for the "Science and Technology Silk Road".
Aligned with global carbon neutrality goals and the Belt and Road green development initiative, the forum utilized collaboration between Central Asia's natural resources and China's manufacturing expertise.
As a follow-up to the inaugural forum held in September 2024 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, this event translated consensus on green energy technologies into actionable steps, boosting regional sustainable development.
