XJTU and UAE's Scholarships Office sign MOU for cooperation
Shan Zhiwei and Jumaa Alremeithi sign MoU of cooperation in Beijing.
Xi'an Jiaotong University's (XJTU) Vice-president Shan Zhiwei and Jumaa Alremeithi, director of the Scholarships Office at the Ministry of Presidential Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Beijing on May 16 to jointly advance the enrollment of Emirati scholarship students at XJTU.
Shan introduced XJTU's achievements in international education, highlighting the full English-taught program system and the innovative "industry-education integration with collaborative talent cultivation" model.
He emphasized that XJTU will use its disciplinary strengths to create a "language adaptation–academic study–industry practice" cultivation path for Emirati students, aiming to nurture interdisciplinary talent proficient in both specialized fields and bilateral cultures to support enhanced strategic cooperation.
This collaboration builds on longstanding mutual trust. In autumn 2023, XJTU admitted its first two Emirati scholarship undergraduates in business Chinese and international economics and trade.
On the same day, Shan also met with Hussain Ibrahim Al Hammadi, UAE Ambassador to China, who commended XJTU's international talent development model and proposed advancing deeper collaboration between UAE universities and XJTU in summer camps, Chinese language training, preparatory education, dual-degree programs, and engineering education.
Following Director Jumaa's delegation's visit to XJTU on May 9, 2024, where both sides reached a consensus on scholarship student cultivation, this MoU signing marks the transition to large-scale implementation. Under the MoU, the UAE will select outstanding students to pursue studies in XJTU's flagship disciplines.
