XJTU's student drama troupe performs at the 10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area University Drama Festival.

Xi'an Jiaotong University's (XJTU) student drama troupe was invited to the ‌10th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area University Drama Festival (2025)‌ held in Macao from April 2 to 7.

They performed their original play The Choice – a tribute to China's "Great Mentors" – alongside troupes from the University of Macao, Tsinghua University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and Sun Yat-sen University.

Inspired by the historic ‌"westward relocation" of Chinese higher education in the 1950s, the play portrays how President ‌Peng Kang‌ led XJUT's faculty and students to relocate across the country and establish roots in Northwest China.

Blending real history with artistic storytelling and regional dialects, the play highlights Peng's leadership as a revolutionary and educator, his devotion to national progress, and the university's efforts to integrate with local communities.

It captures the unwavering resolve of faculty, students, and villagers amid monumental challenges, celebrating their joint efforts to build an educational hub in Northwest China.

Launched in 2014, the festival fosters youth creativity, enriches campus culture, and fuels innovation in drama across the Greater Bay Area. Hosted by the University of Macao this year, it strengthens ties among university troupes, providing young talents with the opportunity to share the mission of cultural and artistic exchanges and mutual learning.
