Three members of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) have been selected to join China's national teams in athletics and orienteering, namely triple jump coach Jiang Wei and student athletes Zhang Haonan and Wang Kun.

In early November, the Chinese Athletics Association announced the national training camp list, which included XJTU coach Jiang Wei and triple jump athlete Zhang Haonan, who were selected for the national training team for jumping events.

Jiang, who once ranked sixth in the triple jump at the World University Games and won silver at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships, became the head coach of XJTU's athletics team for jumping events in 2012.

Over the past 12 years, his students have won eight national championships, four runner-up titles, and two third-place finishes, with two athletes reaching the elite athlete standard.

At last year's inaugural Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China, Jiang and his team represented Shaanxi province, where Zhang secured the silver medal in the men's triple jump university A group with a jump of 16.06 meters.

Zhang, a triple jump athlete at XJTU, enrolled at the school in September 2022. He has several achievements under his belt, including runner-up at the First Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China, third place at the 22nd China University Athletics Championships, and champion at the 2024 National Athletics Indoor Grand Prix.

In addition, the selection of athletes for the Chinese National Orienteering Team and the Chinese National Youth Orienteering Team was also announced. XJTU student athlete Wang Kun was selected for the Chinese National Orienteering Team and will represent China at the Asian Orienteering Championships, which will be held on Dec 20-26 in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She is the first XJTU athlete to join the Chinese National Orienteering Team.

Wang, a member of XJTU's high-performance swimming team, began training in orienteering in 2017. She has won multiple city- and provincial-level orienteering competitions and claimed first place in the W16 group at the 2020 Yangtze River Delta Orienteering Tour and the W21 group in the short-distance race at the 2024 World Orienteering Ranking Event (Shangluo, Shaanxi).
