This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) and Yamanashi Gakuin University (YGU) Confucius Institute. A delegation led by Shan Zhiwei, vice-president of XJTU, attended the anniversary celebration in Japan and visited local partner institutions to promote XJTU's exchanges and collaborations.
The anniversary celebration event took place on Oct 26. A representative from the Chinese Embassy in Japan and the Japanese director and chairman of the Confucius Institute at YGU delivered speeches. They praised the remarkable achievements made by the Confucius Institute over the past five years in Chinese language education and cultural exchange between China and Japan.
Shan commended the Confucius Institute's contributions to Chinese language teaching, cultural dissemination, and educational exchanges between the two universities. He also thanked the partner universities for their strong support and all faculty and staff for their dedicated efforts.
YGU Senior High School students performed Chinese folk songs with traditional Chinese musical instruments, showcasing the achievements of Chinese education at the Confucius Institute.
XJTU and YGU then signed a memorandum of understanding for a 2+2 dual-degree program to cultivate international undergraduate students majoring in business Chinese. The two universities will deepen their cooperation in talent cultivation, language training, preparatory education, and study-abroad services, further enhancing their reputations in each other's home countries.
During the visit, Shan signed agreements to establish international student recruitment bases with Yamanashi Gakuin High School and Dougen Chinese Language School, and presented plaques to both institutions. This also makes Yamanashi Gakuin High School XJTU's first international student recruitment base in Japan.
He introduced the opportunities of studying in China and at XJTU, highlighting the university's comprehensive strengths, academic features, talent cultivation, campus life, and future prospects. Shan encouraged teachers, students, and parents to explore study-abroad opportunities in China.
Shan and his delegation met with XJTU alumni in Japan, held a symposium, and presented certificates to members of the 10th Council of the XJTU Japan Alumni Association.
The delegation also visited Keio University and the China Cooperation Office at Sophia University, discussing joint talent cultivation, scientific research, and enhancing academic reputation and international influence.
The delegation met with Du Kewei, minister-counselor for the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in Japan, and Zhu Xuehua, minister-counselor for the Science and Technology Section. They discussed advancing integrated international exchanges and cooperation in education, science, and technology.
