XJTU delegate attends high-level UN political forum
Bie Zhaohong attends a side event of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
Bie Zhaohong, executive vice-president of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), recently led a delegation to visit the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York, USA. The delegation participated in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, visited Columbia University and Stevens Institute of Technology, and met XJTU's alumni and international students who work and study in New York.
A side event of the forum, titled "Global Energy Interconnectivity and Transition for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)", was held on July 10 New York time, during which Bie delivered a keynote speech.
She introduced XJTU's globalization development strategy, particularly its efforts to integrate industry and education and collaboratively cultivate talents to contribute to the clean and low-carbon transition of energy and the sustainable development of human society.
She also outlined China's policies for accelerating the clean and low-carbon transition in the energy sector and emphasized that scientific and technological innovation and talent cultivation are crucial to achieving the UN's SDGs.
On July 12, Bie was invited to attend an expert meeting titled "International Competition for Low-Carbon Goals and Clarification of Misunderstandings about Key Technologies" organized by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (UNSDSN) at Columbia University. She spoke at the roundtable discussion during the event. On the morning of July 13, she was interviewed for the inaugural episode of the UN TV program "UN Guest Room".
Subsequently, Bie visited the Stevens Institute of Technology, where the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on topics such as inter-university cooperation, student exchanges, and joint education programs.
The XJTU delegation meets with international students and alumni representatives in New York.
During her visit to the USA, she met with international students and alumni representatives in New York. She provided an update on the recent developments of the university and expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the alumni for their support, while also inviting them to visit their alma mater during its 130th anniversary celebration.
