XJTU delegation visits UK

A delegation from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), led by Hong Jun – vice-president of XJTU, recently visited the UK and engaged in several exchange activities in an effort to promote cooperation with British universities.

On the morning of July 8, the delegation visited the University of Manchester and the two universities signed a memorandum of cooperation.

Professor Tim Jones, vice-chancellor of the University of Liverpool, met with the delegation on July 9. In the presence of Tang Rui, consul general of China in Manchester, and Xi Youmin, executive president of Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU), Hong and Tim Jones renewed the "Memorandum of Cooperation between XJTU and the University of Liverpool".

During his time in Liverpool, Hong presided over the 41st meeting of the Board of Directors of XJTLU. He expressed his appreciation for the longstanding cooperation between the University of Liverpool and XJTU and fully acknowledged the achievements made by XJTLU in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The delegation also visited the Confucius Institute jointly established by XJTU and the University of Liverpool. Zhang Hua, the Chinese executive vice dean, briefed the delegation on the institute's progress in Chinese language teaching, academic services, and cultural activities.

On the afternoon of the 10th, the delegation visited Durham University in the UK, where the two sides expressed a common desire for future cooperation.

On the afternoon of the 11th, Hong visited Zhang Jin, the minister counselor for education at the Chinese Embassy in the UK. Hong highlighted XJTU's efforts in international talent development and cooperation with the UK. Zhang introduced the current status and characteristics of Sino-British educational cooperation and expressed his commitment to actively promote collaboration and exchanges between XJTU and British universities.

During the visit to the UK, Hong led the delegation to meet XJTU students at Imperial College London and participated in the activities of alumni who work and live in the UK.
