The list of XJTU's winners of the Outstanding Winner and Finalist awards.

Students from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) set new records in the 2024 Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM) and Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (ICM) by bagging three Outstanding Winner awards (the top award), 16 Finalist awards (the second highest award), and 53 Meritorious Winner awards (the third highest award). The number of Outstanding Winner awards ranked XJTU second globally, marking the university's seventh straight year of winning the top award in the competition.

Additionally, two teams that received the highest award also received the SIAM Award and AMS Award – two other prestigious awards in the competition.

The MCM, organized by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications (COMAP), is the world's only international mathematical modeling competition.

The competition covers a wide range of topics, including economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and security. Teams of up to three undergraduate students are required to work on designated problems over a period of four days and three nights, completing tasks such as model building, solving, verification, and paper writing, testing the participants' abilities in researching problems, proposing solutions, and demonstrating teamwork.

In this edition of the competition, there were 28,912 teams from over 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, with over 85,000 university students participating. Universities such as Cornell University, Duke University, and the University of Glasgow, as well as domestic institutions like Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and XJTU, all sent teams to compete. A total of 35 Outstanding Winner awards were given out in the competition, with a winning rate of only 0.12 percent.

The topics of the competition included investigating the impact of natural environments on organisms, establishing a location prediction model to search for underwater vehicles, developing models for competition processes in sporting events and studying algorithms to maintain optimal water levels in lakes, among other real-world issues from various industries.

XJTU has long placed great importance on training students for mathematical modeling competitions (at both the national and international levels), which are among the most participated in and interdisciplinary academic competitions at the university. In 2024, the university saw over 520 teams and more than 1,500 outstanding students register for the competition.
