XJTU and URFU engage in discussions on further cooperation.

Victor Koksharov, rector of the Ural Federal University (URFU) in Russia, and Sergey Tushin, vice-rector for international relations, visited Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) on April 10. Shan Zhiwei, vice-president of XJTU, met with Koksharov and his delegation. The two sides held discussions on advancing cooperation between the two universities, jointly conducting scientific research in relevant disciplines, and cultivating talent.

Shan warmly welcomed Koksharov and his delegation, introducing XJTU's academic strengths, specialties, international cooperation, and the development of the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbour (iHarbour).

He emphasized that XJTU actively engages in cooperation with Russian universities, highlighting the deep scientific research cooperation already established between XJTU and URFU in the field of dielectrics. He mentioned that iHarbour, as a center for research talent, welcomes researchers from around the world to collaborate. He also welcomed URFU to join the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR) and looked forward to more pragmatic cooperation and deeper friendship between the two universities within the alliance.

Koksharov introduced URFU's education system, development, and international cooperation. He said that XJTU, as the most influential university in western China, is a key cooperation partner for URFU. He expressed URFU's willingness to join UASR and said he hoped for more student exchanges and joint scientific research in more related fields between the two universities in the future.

URFU, also known as Yeltsin University, is located in Yekaterinburg, Russia. The university boasts more than 46,000 students and over 4,000 faculty members from over 100 countries, including top global experts. XJTU and URFU signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in 2016 and a student exchange agreement in 2023.
