The national finals of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition 2023 (CICSIC 2023) concluded at Tianjin University on Dec 6.
Only one project per 10,000 won gold awards, and Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won six. It tied for seventh place among national universities in total number of gold awards. It also secured seven silver awards and four bronze awards.
All three international projects recommended by XJTU also received gold awards, more than any other university. XJTU and its recommended international projects collectively obtained nine gold awards, ranking fifth in total number of gold awards among national universities.
Throughout the nine editions of the competition, XJTU's total number of gold awards rose to second place among national universities (excluding international projects).
The competition was jointly organized by 12 departments, including the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Tianjin Municipal People's Government, with Tianjin University as the host.
This year, a total of 4.21 million projects from 5,296 schools in 151 countries and regions around the world were submitted, with 17.09 million participants registering for the competition. Among them, 1,260 outstanding projects stood out and advanced to the final stage for on-site competition, with 423 projects ultimately winning gold awards.
XJTU attached heavy importance to this year's competition and, through preparations for the event, has been promoting innovation and entrepreneurship within the university.
Since the launch of the competition in April, XJTU has established a special competition workgroup, mobilizing students and alumni to submit nearly 500 innovation and entrepreneurship projects, with over 4,000 participants registering. This initiative spanned across all academic departments. The Practice Teaching Center also held more than 150 specialized lectures, presentations, and innovation and entrepreneurship training camps both online and on-site. A number of experts addressed different stages of competition preparation during the events.
