The opening ceremony for the 2023 international students at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) took place on Oct 6. Over 600 new international students from more than 76 countries and regions gathered together with great anticipation and high hopes as they embark on a journey toward their dreams at XJTU.

Wang Shuguo, president of XJTU, Xi Guang, vice president of XJTU, Shan Wenhua, assistant president of XJTU, and Song Yang, director of the Xi'an municipal immigration administration, attended the opening ceremony and jointly welcomed the new international students.

Wang delivered a heartfelt message to the new students. Drawing from his own experience of learning French while studying abroad, he emphasized the crucial role of language in cultural integration and interpersonal communication. He encouraged international students to actively learn Chinese and become bridges for the dissemination of Chinese culture.

Pemika Vutiwut from Thailand and Okopi Solomon Inalegwu from Nigeria, representing both new and returning international students, expressed their excitement about their student life and sincere love for XJTU, while also thanking the university for providing them with the precious opportunity to come to China to study.

The ceremony concluded with all attendees standing up to sing the XJTU's school anthem together.
