XJTU achieves real-time transmission of images with ultra-low bitrate via shortwave channel
Ge Chenyang and his team at the National Key Laboratory of Human-Computer Hybrid Enhanced Intelligence, located at Xi'an Jiaotong University, have achieved a significant breakthrough in the real-time transmission of ultra-low bitstream intelligent images through a shortwave channel. The experiment conducted between Xi'an and Baoji, both of which are in Shaanxi province, showed remarkable results.
Both the transmitting and receiving ends utilized the team's developed "extremely low bitstream intelligent image transmission equipment". The equipment establishes communication with the shortwave radio through the serial port, enabling real-time transmission of color or grayscale images. Senior experts from prominent communication companies that provide shortwave radio stations have highly commended the image quality achieved through this system.

This experiment validates the practicality of employing ultra-high compression ratio AIGC image encoding and decoding technology in the realm of ultra-low bandwidth intelligent communication. Ge and his team, affiliated with the Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Xi'an Jiaotong University, have thus ushered in an era of smart phone satellite communication, remote operation of UAVs/UGVs, and digital metaverse.
