XJTU presents “Global Campus” 2023 University-level International Exchange Programs during summer vacation and fall semester
The presentation of the “Global Campus” 2023 University-level International Exchange Programs During Summer Vacation and Fall Semester was held on the afternoon of March 14, 2023 at the Lecture Room 101, Science Hall, XJTU, and was streamed live on the XJTU Siyuan Live-stream Platform.
This event was organized based on XJTU's guideline for developing international education and the inter-university cooperation agreements, with the purpose of implementing XJTU’s plan on educational internationalization to realize the objective of cultivating high-quality talents with global vision and competitiveness. XJTU also encourages its students to go abroad for further study and gaining multi-campus experience.
Liu Wenfeng, Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, Wei Xueyong, Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, Yang Jianke, Deputy Director of the Teaching Affairs Department, and Long Jiangang, Deputy Director of the Graduate School, attended the event and introduced XJTU’s relevant overseas study policies.
The event included three sessions: program launching and policies interpretation, representative program introduction, and student representatives experience-sharing.
At the beginning of the event, Liu Wenfeng delivered a rousing speech titled The World Outside Is Yet To Be Seen. She encouraged students to join in international exchange programs to "explore the scenery, experience cultural differences, and learn advanced science and technology".
Wei Xueyong then introduced the overall situation of XJTU's international exchange programs. He analyzed different programs and suggests students choose programs based on their own situation. In addition, he introduced the professional administration and services provided by XJTU’s Department of International Cooperation and Exchange which has assisted students in involving better overseas study life.
Yang Jianke introduced XJTU’s policies and funding scheme that supporting undergraduate students in overseas study programs. He mentioned the significance of overseas studies and the necessity for universities to carry out educational internationalization. He encouraged students to "boost the motivation to study abroad and start the cross-cultural communication" so as to better present China to the world and clarify the missions and responsibilities of the young people for the new era.
Long Jiangang introduced government-sponsored international programs for postgraduate students and interpreted XJTU’s relevant policies and funding scheme. He mentioned that XJTU will keep focusing on “cultivating high-level talents with global vision”, expecting that all XJTU students would have the opportunity to shine in their own field.
In the second session, all the invited international guests delivered speeches. They were Prof. Nicola Clayton from Cambridge University, Fellow of the Royal Society, and Founder of the Coventry Centre in Cambridge, Dr. Christopher Adamson, Head of the short-term program at Lady Margaret College, Oxford University, and Liv DAI, summer programs leader of the Department of Computer Science, National University of Singapore. They introduced their universities’ summer programs of 2023 and expressed warm welcome to XJTU students.
In the third session, six students — Wang Junyi (exchanging at Oxford University), Cao Yang (exchanged at the University of Wisconsin-Madison), Cheng Shi (exchanged at Osaka University), Ding Wenfu (exchanged at Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Zhuang Zitong (exchanged in the China & France 4+4 dual degree program), and Lu Jiali (exchanging at the University of Notre Dame) — were invited to share their experience. They shared their learning and life experience in the programs and encouraged the junior fellows to step out of the XJTU campus and to embrace the broader world.
At the end of the event, staff of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange introduced the follow-up activities and said that the detailed information would be released on the Department’s homepage and the official WeChat account.
The Global Campus Program aims to build an overseas exchange platform for XJTU students by providing short-term overseas exchange opportunities. XJTU firmly believes that this program can assist students to keep their country in mind, understand the necessity of inclusiveness and mutual-learning of world civilization, appreciate the greatness and contribution of human wisdom, and have an insight into the opportunities and challenges of the changing world. Through this way, they are expected to be trained to be talents who are capable of working, leading, and competing in the global community.
This event has received extensive attention from students and teachers. According to the statistics, the event's live-streaming received more than 7,800 visitors.
