XJTU conquers world's first endoscopic pulsed field ablation
The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) recently successfully handled the world's first endoscopic pulsed field ablation for a pancreatic cancer patient, marking China's new breakthrough in endoscopic surgery.
The innovation is expected to provide a new means for the diagnosis and treatment of hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors.
Pulsed field ablation is mainly based on the principle of high-voltage pulsed electric field biological effects by applying a certain intensity of high-voltage pulsed electric field to tumor tissue, which will cause irreversible electroporation in the tumor cell membrane.
In addition to treating hepatobiliary and pancreatic tumors, it is also possible to apply endoscopic pulsed field ablation to treat gastrointestinal, respiratory, urinary, and metabolic diseases.
This operation adopted domestic high-performance medical devices with completely independent intellectual property rights, which is greatly improved compared with foreign products.
