XJTU alumnus elected as CAE Fellow
Liang Jie, an alumnus of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was among 47 new Fellows elected into the Canadian Academy of Engineering this year.
Liang Jie, an alumnus of Xi'an Jiaotong University, is currently a tenured professor of Simon Fraser University in Canada.
The CAE granted the honor to Liang in recognition of his outstanding contributions to scientific research, education and industrialization.
XJTU is Liang's alma mater, where he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Currently he is a tenured professor of Simon Fraser University in Canada.
Liang is an internationally renowned scholar in the field of image and video compression. His research results have been adopted by a number of industrial products and international standards, such as Microsoft Windows Media Video Player and Blu-ray Disc standard.
In his world-leading position, Liang has always worked closely with top companies and universities in the research of image compression based on deep learning. He is currently participating in the formulation of next-generation image compression standards in international organizations, such as JPEG AI and IEEE 1857.
Founded in 1987, the CAE is the highest honor institution and think tank of the Canadian government in the field of engineering. Its fellows are nominated and elected by their peers. Including Liang, a total of 18 ethnic Chinese were selected this year.
