A student team from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) has won the COMAP Scholarship Award at the 2022 Mathematical Contest in Modeling/ Interdisciplinary Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) as one of the four top teams to take home the accolade.

XJTU won a total of 75 awards, including 1 Outstanding Winner, 14 Finalists, 22 Meritorious Winners and 38 Honorable Mention awards.

The annual contest, which was held in February this year, covers various disciplines, such as economics, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, and security. Participants are required to work in teams to explore a designated problem, find a solution and finish their work within four days. 

Students from well-known universities and institutions, including Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Columbia University, and University of California showed their prowess.

MCM/ICM, sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics, is the most influential mathematical modeling competition worldwide. This year, 27,205 teams from 22 countries and regions participated in the event, consisting of 80,693 students 

Among all the teams, there were 44 Outstanding Winners, 684 Finalists, 1,797 Meritorious Winners and 5,803 Honorable Mentions in total.
