The 59th track and field sports meeting of Xi'an Jiaotong University was held from May 13 to 14, with 10,764 athletes from 65 teams participating in 23 events.

In his speech, XJTU President Wang Shuguo pointed out that the sports meeting displays the spirit that enables social progress. He called on students to participate in various kinds of sports to build up strength and temper their willpower. 

He also encouraged them to carry forward the university's westward relocation spirit that leads students and teachers of the university to fight hard against difficulties and challenges and persistently strive for dreams. 

In this way, students can not only bring out the best version of themselves, but also contribute to the development of the university and the country, he said.

Student performance at the opening ceremony of the sports meeting

During the two-day event, two athletes broke XJTU track and field records. In the women's hammer throw final, Wei Xiyan set a new record with a toss of 56.15 meters. In the men's 400-meter final, Yang Shining won the gold medal with a new record of 47.6 seconds.

School departments made coordinated efforts and proper arrangements to secure the success of the sports meeting. Students watched events in an orderly manner in accordance with COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
