XJTU alumna wins international award for power system expertise

According to the Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute (GEIRI), An Ting, a 1978 alumna of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), won the "Technical Council Award 2021" and "CIGRE Pioneer 2020 e-session Achievement Award" at the opening ceremony of the Virtual Centennial Session of the International Council on Large Electric Systems (CIGRE) — a global community committed to the collaborative development and sharing of power system expertise.
An, a PhD graduate, chartered engineer, and fellow of the UK Institution of Engineering and Technology studied at XJTU from 1978 to 1982, majoring in Electrical Engineering. She received a doctoral degree in 2000 at the University of Manchester.
She is currently the chief expert of direct current (DC) transmission, and the technical director of overseas DC engineering in the GEIRI. She is also a guest researcher of the Institute of Electrical Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a member and distinguished expert of the China Energy Research Society.
The "Technical Council" award, granted by the chairman of the Technical Council, is accorded every two years for active participation in Study Committees (SC).
An Ting receives the 'Technical Council Award 2021' and 'CIGRE Pioneer 2020 e-session Achievement Award'.
Nominated by 16 SC chairpersons, supported by at least two official members of each committee from different countries, and approved by the Technical Council, only 16 people (one for each SC) can receive the award.
The "CIGRE Pioneer 2020 e-session Achievement Award" this time recognized academic committee members who have made outstanding contributions in the 2020 and 2021 CIGRE e-sessions.
With her deep understanding of research and development needs in the fields of new energy power generation and HVDC transmission, An actively participated in the meetings and activities organized by the CIGRE and its committees as a key member of SCs, a special reporter of the CIGRE conferences, and a leader of relevant working groups.
An researched topics such as the "DC grid benchmark models for system studies", the results of which have been published in the "Technical Brochure", and has made outstanding contributions to the establishment of a universal DC grid standard model that meets different application scenarios and different system research types.
Established in 1921, in Paris, France, the CIGRE aims to foster engagement and knowledge-sharing among power system professionals on a global scale, in order to establish the sustainable provision of electricity for all.
In the past century, the CIGRE has continued to develop and innovate, both in response to and in anticipation of the trends and challenges that have emerged in the global power system. It organizes a conference every two years, inviting more than 8,000 scholars and technicians from across more than 130 countries around the world.
