The 2021 University Alliance of the Silk Road Summer Camp of Xi'an Jiaotong University was held from July 19 to 25 in Xi'an, Northwest China's Shaanxi province.
About 300 Chinese and foreign students from more than 80 schools across 41 countries, including Russia, Spain and Italy, attended the opening ceremony.
The summer camp not only gathered professors and celebrities, but also created a platform for peers to exchange and share, and included lectures on technological topics such as "hydrogen production from solar energy" and interesting cultural content such as exploring the creation of Chinese characters and Xi'an customs and food.
The summer camp combined the characteristics of XJTU with traditional Chinese culture, and met the learning needs of students from different countries through rich content and diverse "cloud" lectures and "cloud" interaction.
During the summer camp, the most popular events among campers were the vlog and online exchange activities shared by the senior students of XJTU. International students from multiple schools of XJTU communicated and interacted with campers from various countries via video link and livestreaming platform.
The students also filmed videos to inspire campers to visit iHarbour, the westward relocation museum, laboratories, dormitories, classrooms, and canteens and shared their own experiences of learning at the university.
They answered the academic questions of the campers, and showed the hardware facilities and campus environment of XJTU, as well as the daily life of studying abroad from the perspective of students.
At the closing ceremony, the campers shared their experience in the summer camp. Kwon Chaerie from South Korea said that she not only learned cutting-edge knowledge related to science and technology, but also discussed hot issues in the development of contemporary society, which broadened her horizons and enriched her knowledge and professionalism.
Gisella Nofenna from Indonesia said that during the summer camp, she made friends with outstanding classmates from all over the world. Although she could not come to the scene because of the COVID-19 epidemic, she still yearned to study and live at XJTU, and hoped to come to Xi'an in the near future to experience China's economic and social development and traditional cultural heritage.
The event also received extensive attention from many well-known media outlets such as People's Daily, XinhuaNet, China Daily, Huanqiu, China Education Online, ifeng.com, and the Xi'an Broadcasting Corporation.
In the future, XJTU will continue to practice the Silk Road Spirit and build an interactive platform for friendly exchanges among young people from participating countries with an active attitude.
