XJTU wins highest honors at National Student Sports Games
Representing Shaanxi province, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) wins the Principals Cup, the highest honor of the National Student Sports Games on July 17.
At the closing ceremony of the 14th National Student Sports Games held at No 67 Middle School on July 17, Qingdao city, East China's Shandong province, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) won the highest honor, the Principals Cup.
The Principals Cup is the highest award for comprehensive evaluation of college sports work. It began in the 4th Student Sports Games in 1992 and has enjoyed a history of nearly 30 years.
It is given to commend colleges and universities that have made outstanding contributions to school sports and to encourage them to actively promote school sports. This is the second time XJTU has won the honor in 25 years after first winning it at the 5th National Student Sports Games in 1996.
The National Student Sports Games is the top and highest competitive student sports event in China. This year's Games were jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Education, the General Administration of Sport of China and the Communist Youth League Central Committee, and hosted by the Qingdao Municipal People's Government and the Shandong Provincial Education Department.

A total of 33 delegations from 31 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps and the Macao Special Administrative Region participated in the competition, which was the largest National Student Sports Games with the most number of participants.
XJTU sent basketball, swimming, and track and field athletes to represent Shaanxi province to compete in this grand event.

After days of fierce competition, XJTU won two golds and two bronzes, and took 4th place in three events. In the men's triple jump final, Jia Yufei won the championship with a score of 16.30 meters, becoming the first athlete in the history of the XJTU track and field team to win a grand slam title in a domestic college student sports games. In the women's hammer throw final, Wei Xiyan, won the gold medal again with an excellent score of 54.10 meters.
Zhang Donghao participated in the 3,000-m obstacle race for the first time and won a bronze medal with an outstanding performance of 9 minutes 22.63 seconds. In the women's 4×400m relay race, Zhang Siyu, Liu Yueying and Guo Mengyue served as the main players and won another bronze medal.
XJTU athletes also won 4th place in different items such as women's 100m hurdles, women's hammer throw, and women's 200m medley swimming.
In the team competition, despite being blighted by injuries, the XJTU men's basketball team still fought hard and achieved 8th place.
