The Hospital of Stomatology Xi'an Jiaotong University, a national-level 3-A (the top grade in China's hospital classification system) medical institute which specializes in stomatology and is directly affiliated with the National Health Commission (NHC), is a comprehensive hospital combining medical treatment, education, scientific research and preventive healthcare.

It is a specialized training center for stomatology in Northwest China, the continuing medical education base of NHC, the national base for the testing of stomatological practitioners and the training of examiners, the regulatory training base of national stomatological residents, and an institution authorized to undertake national pharmaceutical clinical trials, as well as the Shaanxi Clinical Research Center of Dental and Maxillofacial Diseases, Shaanxi Medical Quality Management Center of Stomatology and the Stomatology Branch of the Shaanxi Medical Doctor Association.

The hospital offers educational programs for undergraduate students, master's students, Ph.D. students and international students. It has been authorized to provide Ph.D. programs in stomatology and the interdiscipline of stomatology and bio-medicine, and master's degree programs in stomatology, clinical science and the basic science of stomatology. Its stomatological major has been rated as one of the first-class academic orientations for undergraduate students in China.

The hospital has undertaken 368 scientific research programs over the past years, including with the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National High-tech R&D Program (863 Program) and programs above municipal level. To date, it has published over 900 academic papers, 203 of which have been added to the Science Citation Index (SCI).

Meanwhile, the hospital has been recognized 19 times for its research progress above provincial level, and awarded 23 national invention patents.

It has set up a stomatology research center plus a professional research platform featuring cell and molecular biology, histopathology and 3D digital diagnosis. There are a number of advanced items of medical equipment, including a micro-CT imaging system for small living animals, a laser scanning confocal microscope, ABI genetic analysis instruments, a 3D printing system and a 3D stomatological scanning system, ultracentrifuge and BOSE cell dynamic cultivation system.

The hospital was approved in September 2015 to build a clinical research center for oral and maxillofacial diseases - a major laboratory in Shaanxi Province. The center can conduct scientific research into oral microbiology, cell biology, protein and gene engineering, and tissue engineering.
