Established in 2004, the School of Public Policy and Administration of Xi'an Jiaotong University is headed by Prof. Jiang Zhenghua, a renowned population economist andVice chairman of the Ninth and Tenth Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. 

The School currently has 59 full-time teachers, including 46 professors and associate professors. It consists of a series of institutions including the Department of Public Administration, the Institute of Population and Development Studies, the Institute of Government Management and Governance Innovation, the Institute of Social Development and Social Security, and the Institute of Health Management and Policy. It is also equipped with an education center onMaster of Public Administration (MPA) and a training center for senior civil servants.

The School is entitled to confer doctoral and master's degrees in the first-level discipline of public administration. It was among the first group of education units accredited to incubate MPA professionals in China. It  is also entitled to offer a master's degree in the first-level discipline of education.

Adhering to its purpose of "addressing Chinese issues with international vision, and serving the society", the School pays attention to the major needs of society and the country, and pursues a balanced discipline construction both academically and pragmatically. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 90 national projects, and has carried out 28 high-level projects supported by international funds and international cooperation. Its research results in many fields have received important instructions and affirmations from the central and local governments, and have had a positive impact on related public policies.
