Two XJTU academicians win Shaanxi's top scientific honor
In accordance with a decision made by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government on March 23, the 2020 Shaanxi Provincial Preeminent Science and Technology Award was granted to two professors from Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU): one for work on transient optics & ultrafast phonetics and the other for research in artificial intelligence.

Hou Xun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has made many fundamental findings in China's research on high-speed photography and major machinery, which have contributed a great deal to the success of nuclear bombs, missiles, man-made satellites and inertial confinement fusion.
His scientific achievements have greatly accelerated the development and application of China's ultrafast phonetics and night vision technologies and elevated domestic ultrafast technology to a globally advanced level.

Zheng Nanning, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, is a front runner and founder of China's artificial intelligence industry. His research on the computational model of stereo computer vision and the theory of attention computing has won wide acclaim from international academic circles.
Zheng has championed research into computer vision, made a number of achievements in frontier and pilot areas, and been a leading figure in domestic scientific circles since the 1980s. In addition, he made a breakthrough in vision chip and other bottlenecks of core technologies related to major national defense, accelerated China's independent innovation in core technologies related to computer vision, played a key role in the leapfrog development of the country's unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)0technology, and contributed much to the robust growth of AI-related frontier technologies and industries.
Furthermore, he is also well established in leading the discipline directions, talents incubation, strategic planning of the national information industry, and regional innovation-driven development, laying a solid foundation for a new-generation AI industry.
