On June 24, 2019, the world first surgical implant of a fully-degradable patent foramen ovale (PFO) plug was successfully carried out by Professor Zhang Yushun and his team. Professor Zhang Yushun, director of the Structural Heart Disease Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU, performed the surgery with minimally invasive techniques. The entire operation lasted 20 minutes. Twenty-four hours later, the patient uneventfully left the hospital. This is a new achievement in the structural heart disease field based on independent research, innovation, and manufacture, marking China's leading position in the treatment for structural heart disease.
