On May 9, 2019, the new Essential Science Indicators (ESI) was announced which revealed that the engineering discipline of XJTU had for the first time entered the ESI global top 0.01%, ranking 13th among 1420 institutions entering the ESI global top 1%.

The statistical analysis period is from January 1, 2009 to February 28, 2019. During this period, 5864 institutions entered the ESI global top 1%. XJTU ranked 325th in global and 16th among colleges from the China mainland, with 488 high-cited papers selected and 20 "hot papers".

XJTU's discipline of Engineering entered the ESI top 0.01% ranking for the first time, which is a major breakthrough for the development of engineering discipline.
