On June 23, 2018, the 2018 XJTU Commencement Ceremonies were held at the Siyuan Student Activity Center.

A total of 3302 undergraduates and 3567 postgraduates got their degrees, among which 609 students achieved their doctoral degree. Seventy present of the undergraduates choose to study further at postgraduate programs, with 1840 studying in China and 426 going overseas. The number of students to study in world-renowned universities such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanford University, accounts for 71.55% of those students studying overseas.

XJTU President Wang Shuguo, on behalf of the university, extended his most sincere congratulations to the graduates attending the 2018 XJTU Commencement Ceremony for Undergraduates. He shared two articles in his speech, namely, The Bridge of Life, written by Chinese writer Shen Shixi, and What I Believe, a speech of Albert Einstein, to address that a nation or a country’s prosperity cannot be achieved without the continuous and dedicated efforts of its people. Similarly, the achievements of XJTU in current times cannot be realized without the guidance of the Westward Relocation Spirit and the earnest contributions made by all XJTU students, faculty and staff. He expressed his hope that all XJTU students should reflect upon themselves regularly, maintain positive attitudes and pursue self-value, seeking a meaningful life.

During the 2018 XJTU Commencement Ceremony for Postgraduates, President Wang Shuguo shared sentences from the book “De Vita Beata”, written by Lucius Annaeus Seneca in ancient Rome. He encouraged all graduates to face up to and fight back against adversities and challenges which they might encounter in the future. He particularly emphasized that nothing is too difficult for one who sets his mind on success.

In addition, XJTU Professor Zhang Hongquan, Professor Luo Xianjue, Professor LeiYaguo, representatives of XJTU alumni and representatives of international graduates each made a speech during the occasion.
