School of Energy and Power Engineering earned the Donald Julius Groen Prize
Three people from the School of Energy and Power Engineering, including the PhD student Song Peng and his supervisor Sun Jinju received from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) the Donald Julius Groen Prize.
Professor Sun Jinju’s research team is engaged in internal flow control and design optimization of axial flow compressor, the key component of the flight engine, having created the highly efficient and user-friendly three-dimensional blade optimization for the compressor. Lately, the team has applied the 3D blade optimization into effectively controlling the shock wave, the secondary flow and separation flow of the blade channel and therefore dramatically enhanced the aerodynamic performances (pressure ration and efficiency) and stability of the compressor.
The research was published in Journal of Power and Energy.
