Professor Nicolas R. Gauger from Technische Universit t Kaiserslautern visited XJTU
On May 12, Nicolas R. Gauger, Professor of Mathematics and Computational Science Department and Director of Center for Computational Science from Technische Universitt Kaiserslautern visited XJTU on academic exchanges at the invitation of Dean Feng Zhenping, School of Energy and Power Engineering. In the morning, Professor Gauger delivered an impressive lecture entitled Adjoint Methods for Efficient Optimization and Control in CFD and CAA. The lecture was chaired by Professor Li Jun of Turbomachinery Institute. In his lecture, Professor Gauger introduced his research team and the significance of proactive flow control in the optimization process. He also described in details the induction and creation process for the discrete adjoint method and its advantage over the continuous adjoint method in a comparative fashion. Meanwhile, Professor Gauger illustrated the applications of adjoint method in airfoil flow separation control, porous media optimization, and transonic airfoil lift-drag optimization, and demonstrated its advantage in computational efficiency and accuracy. He also shared his research results and experience in open source coding, earning wide acclaims among attending faculty and students.
Following the lecture, faculty and students from the Turbomachinery Institute further discussed with professor Gauger questions on his lecture, introduced the ongoing projects, conducted broad academic inquiries and built consensus on further cooperation in the future.
