Two former Chinese Ambassadors visited XJTU
On the morning of December 23, China's former ambassador to Kazakhstan Yao Peisheng and former ambassador to Uzbekistan Zhang Zhiming and their wives visited Xi'an Jiaotong University(XJTU). The president Wang Shuguo of XJTU met the visitors in the conference room of the main building.
The president Wang Shuguo extended welcome to the visitors and indicated that it was a great honor to invite them to visit XJTU and provide guidance for the construction of "One Belt and One Road", the Silk Road Economic Belt. President Wang introduced that, by centering on the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt, XJTU will carry out researches and cooperation in personnel training, legal system, economic and trade links, policy studies and other aspects, in collaboration with researched performed by the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and National Development and Reform Commission. Collaboration and exchanges among universities and colleges in central Asia countries will then be strengthened with Silk Road Economic Belt as the main line. President Wang also introduced the achievements of XJTU made in the construction of Silk Road Economic Belt and hoped to be able to strengthen cooperation with more and more experts, scholars and research institutions at home and abroad in the future. In this way, when national economic strength is promoted, universities can play a more important role. He hoped that the two ambassadors would provide their experience and policy guidance for future work.
The ambassador Yao Peisheng talked about his diplomatic career and mentioned that "One Road and One Belt" had been a topic of widespread discussion both at home and abroad. The goal of this visit was to listen to more opinions. He pointed out that Premier Li keqiang signed a Joint Communiqu with and Prime Minister Karim Massimov during his visit to Kazakhstan, which reflected the importance of Kazakhstan in the construction of "One Road and One Belt", and China's diversion in its policy from energy to non-energy fields in central Asia, namely, cultural exchanges. The construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt is a breakthrough after thirty years implementation of reform and opening up, for optimizing system and giving renewed impetus for reform. It will facilitate the implementation of go global strategy of central and western regions, build a new Eurasian channel and pave the way for cultural exchange.
Ambassador Zhang Zhiming believed that this visit was a very good opportunity and the construction of "One Road and One Belt" was China's major strategygo into the world and to fulfill Chinese dream. XJTU, as a renowned institution of higher learning, was imbued with many well-known academic leaders both at home and abroad and had also reaped plentiful and meaningful fruits in international exchanges and cooperation. He hoped that by putting our heads together, the construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt can be carried forward and advanced to a new stage.
After the conference, the two ambassadors had a discussion with heads and teachers on behalf of School of Law, School of Energy and Power Engineering, School of Management, School of Humanities and Social Science, School of Electrical Engineering and School of Public Policy and Administration, and other relevant schools.
