XJTU Students Won Awards in the Ninth Chinese Speech Contest for Overseas Students of Shaanxi Province
On December 16th, the Ninth Chinese Speech Contest for Overseas Students of Shaanxi Province was held in Xi'an Jiaotong University with the theme "Further Path, Chinese Love". It was hosted by Education Department of Shaanxi Province and International Student Management Associationof Shaanxi Province, and organized by Xi'an Jiaotong University.
There were 31 contestants from 12 universities and colleges of Shaanxi Province. They came from 19 countries such as Germany, Britain, South Korea and so on. After nearly two hours of intense competition, 3 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 11 third prizes were selected in the final. Our university achieved a great success in this contest. MUNKHZAYA who came from Mongolia, won the first prize. ORIFOV ABDULMAJID, a Tajikistan student, and CHALWE LENGWE, a Zambian student won the second prize. The British student LAWRENCE SMYTH and the German student JOHANNA KATHARINA BERNATEK, won the third prize.
The contestants' fluent oral Chinese and rich contents conquered the audience and won warm applause of the audience, which created constant climaxes. They talked about their study and life in China, such as the Great Wall, allegro, Chinese idioms, Chinese hamburger, Bing Feng soda, and Biang Biang noodles. Additionally, they shared their experience of learning Chinese and Chinese culture based on their daily lives, traveling and food. All judges and the audience marveled at their fluent Chinese, the confident and humorous expression as well as the touching and innovative contents.
During the speech, overseas students talked that their experience in China coexisted with progress and pains, exploration and pursuits, glory and dreams, displaying cultural exchanges between different countries and collision of ideas, demonstrating their excellent abilities in using Chinese and demonstrating their colorful lives, which also exhibited the achievements of Chinese education as a foreign language in universities and colleges of Shaanxi Province.
This contest provided a platform for those overseas students coming to China to learn and communicate in Chinese, which stimulated their enthusiasm to learn Chinese, and enhanced their comprehension of Chinese language and Chinese culture. It would be a golden chance for them to "love the university, advertise for Shaanxi Provinceand understand China", and to become friendly messengers in cross-cultural communications.
