Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research of Russia Visited Xi’an Jiaotong University
On December 10th, Director of the Neutron Physics Laboratory of Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research of Russia, V. N. Shvetsov, Deputy Director E. V. Lychagin, Chief scientist S. C. Zeinalov and their delegation visited Xi'an Jiaotong University. President Wang Shuguo had a cordial meeting with Director V. N. Shvetsov and other delegation members.
President Wang extended a warm welcome to the delegation fromthe Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research of Russia and gave a brief introduction of Xi'an Jiaotong University. He pointed out that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to China-Russia bilateral relations. Early in the founding of the P.R.C, the former Soviet Union provided powerful aid and strong support for the construction and development of Chinese higher education. The two countries have a firm foundation of cooperation and great potential in the field of higher education. He stated that Xi'an Jiaotong University focuses on cooperation with world-leading research institutes, and that Shaanxi Province currently has rapid economic development, abundant research reserves and great energy demand. He added that the Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) can cooperate with Xi'an Jiaotong University in the nuclear electrical field in the future and better implement the idea of transferring scientific and technological achievements to serve society.
Director of Neutron Physics Laboratory of the Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research of Russia V. N. Shvetsov introduced related information of the research institute, including establishment history, research advantages, research teams, cooperative partners, laboratory equipment and so on. He also pointed out that in the period of the former Soviet Union, their scientists also actively developed scientific cooperation to help Chinese people in the early days of new China. He sincerely hoped that the research institute can build cooperative relations with Xi'an Jiaotong University through this visit and that the Dubna nuclear research institute will also bring its own research advantages and cooperative networks, as well as resources at home and abroad, into full play, providing useful conditions for implementing pragmatic cooperation of both parties.
In the autumn of 1956, the Dubna Joint Institute for Nuclear Research was founded in Dubna, an international scientific city in the most northern part of Moscow, Russia, ina forest of white birch and Korean pine by the side of Volga River. The representatives of countries in the socialist party signed a contract for building a joint institute for nuclear research in Moscow in March, 1956. In the autumn of 1956, the institute was founded. The Dubna institute was once the best physics institute of nuclear research worldwide and possessed the most powerful three-meter cyclotron and the most advanced ability of ionic ray research in the world. It also made remarkable achievements in creatingnew artificial elements composition at that time.
