Sponsored by the School Department of Central Communist Youth League and the Secretariat of National Union of Students, the selection of "National Top 100 Sports Charitable Associations" officially ended on Dec 7. Shi Xinming, deputy director of the School Department of Central Communist Youth League, and Zhang Qiaoyun, deputy director of Union of Students Office of the School Department of Central Communist Youth League, attended the award ceremony.
The selection for inclusion in the "National Top 100 Sports Public Associations" is a nation-wide activity based on the public extracurricular physical exercise under the theme of college students' "Getting off the Internet, getting out of the dormitories, and getting to the playground" in order to ensure its wide popularity. After being recommended by the University Communist Youth League and Provincial Communist Youth League, and evaluated by experts, eventually 100 students' associations were awarded this honor, such as Cycling Association of Peking University, the Basketball Association of Tsinghua University, the Rowing Club of XJTU, etc.
Founded in 2009, the Students' Rowing Club is an important example of XJTU's drive to cultivate a "push sports spirit". Over the past six years, it has performed its work under the ideal of "lightening up your life with rowing" and the goal of "remarkable scores and excellent competitiveness". It has also profoundly promoted the popularity of rowing among students and enhanced the international communication of this sport. By now, the club has attracted over 500 members, in which nearly 100 have communicated with students from top universities around the world such as Harvard University, Yale University, Oxford University and Cambridge University about rowing. These exemplary deeds have been reported by the media such as Chinese Science News. Liang Renzhi, president of the Rowing Club, said, "Rowing brings us not only energy and health, but also a stronger personality and physique. What`s more, it reinforces the idea of pursuing excellence, which plays an enlightening role in students' development. The title of 'National Top 100 Sports Public Association' will further inspire us to promote this sport and to benefit more students."
Currently, there are 32 students' sports associations at XJTU. Besides the Students' Rowing Club, the Students' Cycling World Club and the Students' Running Association also took part in this selection. These students' associations are advanced elements in building a campus sports culture and in displaying a positive outlook of the students in XJTU. Called upon by the public extracurricular physical exercise activity of "getting off the Internet, getting out of the dormitories and getting to the playground", students' sportsassociations at XJTU will devote their youth, wisdom and energy to enriching campus culture, leading physical exercise, guiding student development and leading the development of students associations.
