XJTU Attended 7th National Seminar on Higher Education Reform
The 7th National Seminar on Higher Education Reform was held in Hang Zhou from November 21st to 23rd with "Curriculum, Classroom and Cultivation" as its theme. Professor Zheng Qinghua, Vice President of XJTU and Professor Lu Genshu, Director of XJTU Higher Education Research Institute were invited to the seminar. The two professors delivered a keynote speech and a special speech respectively. Other attendees of the seminar included the following: Qu Zhengyuan, Chairman of China Association of Higher Education (CAHE), Shi Pengjian, Deputy Director of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MOE), Yang Yang, Deputy Director of National Higher Education Research Center, Ding Tianle, Deputy Director of Education Department of Zhejiang Provincial Government and over 800 representatives from higher institutions in China.
Two speeches entitled "Reform Guided by Quality-Oriented Education" and "Construction of On-line Open Courses" were respectively delivered by Chairman Qu and Deputy Director Shi.
Vice President Zheng of XJTU reported on "Innovation-Driven Development and Education on Innovation and Entrepreneurship—XJTU's Exploration and Practice". He pointed out that the essence of innovation-driven development is the education of innovative talents. The fundamental task of higher institutions is to cultivate talents with innovative spirit. The core issues of the task should be resolved with the following guidelines in mind: education should prepare people not only for exploration and creation, but also for innovation consciousness build. People need to be trained to shoulder the responsibilities of making the world better, integrating available resources to create values even under chaotic and uncertain contexts. Vice President Zheng also shared the XJTU measures, achievements and typical cases in the education of career development, which were hotly discussed and applauded by the attendees.
Prof. Lu exchanged his ideas with the participants and gave a speech on the special topic "Comparison of Student Experience in Different Academic Disciplines".
The seminar is facilitative in promoting the reform in higher education. Faculties and administrative members of higher institutions are offered a platform for discussing and sharing reform achievements and experience.
