XJTU Hosted International Seminar on Chinese Philosophy and Philosophy History
On Nov. 22nd, XJTU formally opened "From Xi'an to World": International Seminar on Chinese Philosophy and Philosophy History. The grand event gathered over 120 philosophy scholars from China, the United States, German, and Korea for sharing and discussing the relationship between Chinese philosophy and philosophy history and its reconstruction.
The seminar involved the discussion of the following topics on Chinese philosophy: its relationship with philosophy history, status quo and development, reflection on its text format, application of ontological hermeneutics and influence on the values of modern entrepreneurs. The seminar offered scholars a global platform to air their own opinions and grasp the best idea of the others.
XJTU School of Humanity and Social Sciences hosted the seminar with Professor Lu Jianyou as the initiator. The seminar was co-supported by International Chinese Philosophy Association, Journal of Chinese Philosophy and Shaanxi Chinese Philosophy History Association. Professor Cheng Zhongying and Professor Zhao Fujie were invited as honorary chairman of the seminar. Professor Cheng works for University of Hawaii in the United States. He is a world-famous philosopher and a representative of Neo-Confucianism. Prof Zhao is a tenure-track professor of Northwest University of Politics and Law in Xi'an and also honorary president of Shaanxi Philosophy Association. Previously, he served as chairman of Shaanxi Social Sciences Association.
Vice President Xi Guang addressed the meeting at the opening ceremony and introduced the development of philosophy and social sciences of XJTU. He mentioned that the discipline has a good chance for development and growing influence in the academic field. Prof. Cheng hoped that by the seminar, new ideas would be generated for building new Chinese philosophy and its historic view. In addition, theoretical bases would be laid for rewriting Chinese philosophy history and Chinese philosophy. Association Dean Bian Yanjie briefed on the structure and organization of the School of Humanity and Social Sciences. He invited the attendees to actively join in the discussion session and also keep an eye on the development of XJTU.
Later, topic-related speeches were delivered by Professor Cheng, Professor Zhao, Professor Lu, Professor Gong Jianping of XJTU and Professor Cai Fanglu of Sichuan Normal University.
On the morning of Nov. 23rd, discussion was held in eight separate groups. The participants showed their academic excellence and exchanged ideas with their peers. In the afternoon session, Professor Guo Yi of University of Seoul, Professor Wang Yi of Sichuan International Studies University, Professor David Pickus of Arizona State University, Professor Xie Guangyu of Anhui University Professor Zhang Maoze of Northwest University were invited as speakers. A round-table discussion was also held for further communication.
The closing ceremony was held on Nov. 23rd with speeches from Professor Cheng, Association Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences Prof. Yang Lin, Prof. Lu Jianyou and scholarly entrepreneur Dr. Ma Jianhua. The speakers highly recognized the fruits of the seminar and hoped that all the attendees would work together for promoting the development and research on philosophy.
The seminar received great support from the XJTU School of Science and Technology, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, and Department of Publicity. Postgraduates from School of Humanities and Social Sciences and volunteers actively participated in the seminar.
