Professor Yonggan Zhao from Canada’s Dalhousie University Lectures to Students in the Experimental Mathematics Class
At the invitation of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the internationally known financial optimization expert and professor at Canada's Dalhousie University, Dr. Yonggan Zhao, visited the School on September 28.
In the afternoon of September 28, Professor Zhao delivered a lecture entitled "Optimal Capital Growth with Convex Shortfall Penalty" to the students in the Experimental Mathematics Class and the graduate students of the School of Mathematics and Statistics .The the lecture was chaired by the associate dean of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Professor Chen Zhiping. Some young teachers as well as graduate students from other schools also attended the lecture. Following the lecture, Professor Zhao engaged in a lively dialogue with the students in the Experimental Mathematics Class and the graduate students. Professor Zhao also met with some students who were particular interested in his topic. The lecture gave the students hands-on contact with the latest research in their field and a close look at a variety of mathematic tools needed to solve a variety of financial policy-making problems.
