XJTU undertook the 5th Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar
From September 18 to 21, hosted by Sino-European Engineering Education Platform and undertaken by XJTU, the 5th Sino-European Engineering Education Seminarwas held. Nearly 100 representatives from 15 Chinese universities and 8 European universities got together in XJTU and jointly discussed and pushed the cooperation and development of Sino-European engineering education. The vice president of the International Department of the Ministry of Education Chen Yinghui and the vice secretary general of the China Scholarship Council Zhang Ning attended the seminar. The opening ceremony of the seminar was chaired by the vice president of XJTU Lu Tianjian.
The president of XJTU Wang Shuguo delivered the welcome speech and he pointed out his eager hope on Sino-European engineering education cooperation. The European representative introduced the main models and challenges of Sino-European engineering education cooperation, the work progress of current doctoral student school and the basic envisaging on the joint training of doctoral students. The vice secretary of China Scholarship Council Zhang Ning and the vice president of the International Department of the Ministry of Education Chen Yinghui respectively introduced the funding conditions of China Scholarship Council and the graduate students training and academic degrees management in Sino-European engineering education cooperation and raised concrete requirements on the cooperation of Sino-European engineering education. The representative Ms. Alexandra Lehmann of EU delivered a lecture entitled "the Research and Innovation Cooperation Opportunity under Horizon Plan in 2020".
After the opening ceremony, there were "keynote speeches" and "central discussion". 7 representatives including the president assistant of XJTU Zheng Qinghua, the president of Beijing Jiaotong University Ning Bin, the vice president of Tongji University Chen Yiyi and the president assistant of Harbin Institute of Technology Xu Xiaofei delivered keynote speeches. The universities in attendance delivered speeches one by one in the link of central discussion and deeply discussed and exchanged their ideas.3 engineering doctoral student school programs approved by Sino-European Engineering Education Platform and 7 newly applied ones conducted progress report and application introduction. The seminar decided that Dutch Eindhoven University of Technology and South China University of Technology would undertake the seminar in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
During the seminar period, the two parties China and Europe deepened the current cooperation content and mutual understanding mechanism, discussed the problems like the sustainable development of Sino-European engineering platform and speeding up the mutual visit exchange of the Chinese and European students. China and Europe exchanged their ideas on the performance of the summer school of the doctoral student school and its follow-up development plan. China and Europe will continually perfect the training model of university engineering education, promote the cooperation between universities and enterprises, strengthen the innovation spirit and engineering education of students and jointly boost the substantial cooperation of Sino-European high-level engineering talent training.
At present, the Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar that is held once a year has become an important platform of exchange and cooperation among the universities of Sino-European Engineering Education Platform and the significant channel of the development and cooperation, key fields and implementation scheme of Sino-European engineering education. The two parties willmake great efforts continually, adopt many forms and share information. China will set up "the Cooperation Scholarship on Sino-European Engineering Education" by many channels like Chinese Government scholarship, Enterprise Cooperation Scholarship and University Scholarship and provide more supports for the joint training of Sino-European engineering education talents. Europe will continually integrate the university resources of "CLUSTER", tries to get more supports from the respective government and EU Committee and make greater contribution to the Sino-European humanity exchange and cooperation.
It is known that now the Sino-European Engineering Education Platform consists of 18 Chinese universities and 12 European universities. It aims to promote Chinese and European engineering universities to extensively and deeply cooperate in the aspects like the joint training of engineering talents of different education background levels, teachers' training, teaching material development and scientific research, devote themselves to the training of high- quality senior engineering talents together and foster the mutual recognition of specialties of Sino-European engineering education .
In 2010, 18 Chinese universities and 12 European universities of "CLUSTER" held the First Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar in Shanghai. The two parties China and Europe signed "the Understanding Memorandum on Sino-European Engineering Education Cooperation between the Ministry of Education of PRC and European CLUSTER" , jointly set up Sino-Europe Engineering Education Platform(SEEEP) and discussed the theme "how to update engineering education conception, reform engineering teaching model and enlarge social cooperation under the background of globalization".
In 2011,the members ofSino-European Engineering Education Platform heldthe Second Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar in Lisbon of Portugal. The two parties China and Europe signed "Lisbon Action Plan" and reached consensus in 9 aspects including exchange and consensus, the mutual recognition of scores and academic degrees, course opening, personnel exchange, the cooperation between universities and enterprises, double degree program, joint doctoral student school, information sharing and fund support.
In 2012, the Third Sino-European Engineering Education Seminarwas held in Harbin and pushing and implementing the cooperation and development of Sino-European engineering education was further discussed.
In September of 2013, the Fourth Sino-European Engineering Education Seminar was held in German Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and 4 engineering doctoral student research institute programs including "the joint training of graduate students on Sino-European engineering education in the fields of new energy resource and clean energy resource" were passed.
